FISH FARMING LIVELIHOOD SKILL TRAINING

Hope 4 Our Children launched the next phase of the fish project benefiting street kids who live near Bantar Gebang Garbage Dump, Bekasi, Indonesia starting in February 2016. We are happy to inform you that the harvests of the fish farming project went well. This activity is a collaboration effort with a local nonprofit called Yayasan Ummu Amanah (YUA) and Hope 4 Our Children. YUA provides livelihood skills and accelerated education to economically disadvantaged children who reside near Bantar Gebang garbage dump, Indonesia. The purpose of the fish farm was two folds:

  • To provide livelihood skill training opportunities for street kids by involving them in the maintenance of the fish farm.
  • To support the institution with a source of additional income as they continue to provide for more marginalized children in Bantar Gebang garbage dump area.

The kids are always so excited after every successful harvest for reasons of gaining financial benefit, as well as free meals from the harvest itself!
