Hope 4 Our Children's objective is to help provide economically disadvantaged children with four basic needs: food, shelter, health and education. Here are the highlights of Hope 4 Our Children's Programs in providing four basic needs: food, shelter, health, education
Food and Nutrition Projects
Duck Farming Project in Aceh. Traditional boarding schools in Aceh with orphans and influx of tsunami victims such as Dayah Subulussalam and Dayah Babulilmi face difficulties to support itself and its live-in children economically. In order to help the Dayah or traditional boarding schools become a more self-sustained institution, Hope 4 Our Children has successfully supported them with capital to fund duck farming project and chicken farming project in two Dayah Traditional Boarding Schools. The duck / chicken farming projects in the two institutions have helped provide the live-in children with egg as its main source nutrition. In addition, it generates extra income for the boarding school and serves as business to help the Dayah become a more self-sustained institution.
Duck Farming, Fish Farming and Chicken Farming Project in West Sumatra. In 2010, Hope 4 Our Children is implementing duck farming project and chicken farming project in two orphanages in West Sumatra in locations hit by 2009 earthquake. The living condition in the orphanages becomes increasingly untenable and demands immediate interventions. Some of the orphans have been evacuated by their family members as most of the rooms were destroyed by the earthquake. In addition, it became increasingly difficult for the orphanage to support and provide sufficient food for its 20 live-in students. Most of the children show signs of malnutrition as indicated by decaying teeth and low test scores. Hope 4 Our Children funds a duck or chicken farm for a couple of reasons. First, the farm can supply the orphanage with egg as a source of valuable nutrition for the children. Secondly, as the area where the orphanage is located has potential for egg market, any additional income generated from the duck/chicken farm will enable the orphanage not only to support the current live-in children, but also to increase its capacity to provide for more orphans. In addition, Hope 4 Our Children also provides capital to rebuild a fish farm that was destroyed after the earthquake. The fish production is aimed to provide additional income that will eventually help the orphanage become a self-sustained institution.
Duck Farming in Jogjakarta. In 2011, Hope 4 Our Children is replicating its duck farming project in an orphanage in Jogjakarta in location closet to the 2010 mountain eruption. Hope 4 Our Children funds a duck farm for a couple of reasons. First, the farm can supply the orphanage with egg as a source of valuable nutrition for the children. Secondly, as the area where the orphanage is located has potential for egg market, any additional income generated from the duck farm will enable the orphanage not only to support the current live-in children, but also to increase its capacity to provide for more orphans. Lastly, the program provides livelihood skills for orphans who maintain the duck farm.

Provided Supplies for a Free Clinic. Hope 4 Our Children provided one free clinic at Sigli area. The clinic provides free services for tsunami victims. It serves 40 to 60 patients daily. The clinic lacked medical equipment and essential medication, such as penicillin, painkillers. The funds were allocated for medical equipment: thermometer, blood pressure monitor, exam bed; and medication: which includes penicillin, flu/cold/cough medicine, fever medicine, anti biotic, diarrhea/gastrointestinal, medicines, a doctor's stipend and nurses' stipend. Hope 4 Our Children supplied medicine for free for the clinic as well as connects the free clinic to a local hospital.

We procured one packaging machine to pack shredded fish for fish crackers home industry / small business. This industry generates income without the need of large capital and helps provide their livelihood.
Provided Capital for Home Industry Program and Training for Young Girls. One of the programs designed by Hope 4 Our Children for Dayah Subulussalam was to help them become self sufficient by providing them with capital for home industry. Hope 4 Our Children helped by providing cooking equipment for home industry use (huge mixer, plastic wrapper and coconut milk presser). After school hours, the girls are encouraged to learn how to cook, make cookies, and various traditional cakes. Home industry program produces different kind of cookies and snacks. These products are sold to the local market and "warong" (small restaurants) all over Subulussalam. With about Rp 15,000 worth of raw materials for a cake equivalent to about $2, they can sell the cake for Rp 60,000 or about $8 at a local market. This extra income helps support the Dayah Boarding School. In addition to the extra income, this skill provides on the job training as a potential income source in the future.

YaBim provides training so those street children can provide the services to local offices, neighborhood homes and hospitals. This way, we can empower those youth to make a living from more respectable and profitable jobs and help them support their family members.
