At the end of February 2016, Hope 4 Our Children launched the next phase of the project benefiting street kids who live near Bantar Gebang Garbage Dump, Bekasi, Indonesia. This is the third phase of the fish farming project in Bantar Gebang Garbage Dump. During this phase, the youth is more involved actively in the maintenance of the fish farm.
We are happy to inform you that the two harvests of the fish farming project in early 2014 and in the middle of 2015 went well. This activity is a collaboration effort with a local nonprofit called Yayasan Ummu Amanah (YUA) and Hope 4 Our Children. YUA provides livelihood skills and accelerated education to economically disadvantaged children who reside near Bantar Gebang garbage dump, Indonesia.
The purpose of the fish farm was two folds:
1. to provide livelihood skill training opportunities for street kids by involving them in the maintenance of the fish farm.
2. fish farming will be a source of additional income for the institution to provide for the more marginalized children in Bantar Gebang garbage dump area.
Pictured below is street children who live near Bantar Gebang garbage dump, Jakarta, in the middle of cleaning up and preparing the fish pond.
